How an RV or truck insurance claim actually works
The short answer
Open the claim with your carrier, bring the unit in, we document and estimate, the carrier approves a scope, we repair in stages, and we file a supplement if teardown finds more. Two to eight weeks is typical.

01Open the claim first
Open the claim first
Call your carrier and get a claim number before anything else. You do not need an estimate to open a claim, and opening it early starts the clock on rental or loss of use coverage if your policy carries it.
Photograph the unit where it sits, including the surroundings, before it is moved. That context is useful later if liability is contested.
02Inspection and estimate
Inspection and estimate
We inspect the unit, photograph the damage, and write an estimate against what we can actually see. On RVs a visual estimate is always provisional because the substrate behind the skin is not visible until teardown.
We send that estimate to your adjuster and answer their questions directly so you are not relaying technical detail.
03Approval and scheduling
Approval and scheduling
Once the carrier approves a scope we schedule a bay. Parts lead time is the usual constraint, particularly on caps, sidewall panels and slide components that ship from the manufacturer rather than a warehouse.
04Teardown and the supplement
Teardown and the supplement
Teardown is where the real scope appears. Water damage that tracked along a frame member, substrate that failed behind an intact skin, fasteners pulled through backing. We stop, document it, and submit a supplement with photos and a written justification per line.
Most supplements are approved once the adjuster sees the evidence. This step is the single biggest reason a two week job becomes a six week job, and it is not avoidable.
05Repair, verification and delivery
Repair, verification and delivery
Structural work first, then body, then paint, then reassembly and systems checks. Each stage is photographed for the file.
We verify fit, finish, seals and any system we touched before the unit goes back to you, along with the complete repair file.
Bring it in and we will scope it properly
