The short answer
Riveted aluminum monocoque construction that has almost nothing in common with a laminated fiberglass trailer, and needs panel work rather than filler and paint.

How Airstream units are built
The shell is a riveted aluminum semi monocoque over a steel frame. The skin is structural, so a dented panel is a structural repair rather than cosmetic.
Panel replacement means drilling out Olympic rivets, forming the replacement to the curve, and re-riveting to the original pattern. Filler is not an option on a polished shell.
Segments are joined with a belly pan and a sealed floor edge, so water intrusion tends to travel along the frame rather than through the wall.
02What we see come in
What we see come in
These are the patterns that show up repeatedly on this builder, not a generic list.
- Rivet shear and skin oil canning after a side impact or an over compressed jack point.
- Belly pan corrosion and floor rot at the rear segment on units stored on dirt.
- Clear coat failure and pitting on polished shells exposed to coastal air.
